The People Behind the Place
Deborah Friend Wilson & Chef Jason Wilson

For Deborah Friend Wilson and Chef Jason Wilson, hospitality is personal. As the husband-and-wife team at the heart of Casia Lodge & Ranch, they have shaped the property into a place where thoughtful details, exceptional food and a genuine connection to the Methow Valley come together. Their approach is decidedly hands-on: you are as likely to find Jason in the kitchen or talking fishing with a guest as you are to find Deborah arranging flowers for a dinner, preparing for a wedding or checking in on the horses at the barn. Together, they bring decades of experience in hospitality, culinary arts, design, communications and guest experience to life across the ranch.

James Beard Award-winning Chef Jason Wilson serves as Casia's General Manager and Culinary Director, overseeing the lodge as well as its culinary and fly-fishing programs. A longtime leader in Pacific Northwest dining, Jason was named one of Food & Wine's Best New Chefs and received the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Northwest in 2010. His career has included acclaimed restaurants such as Crush, Miller's Guild and The Lakehouse, and his cooking has long been grounded in seasonality and relationships with local farmers, growers, fishermen and producers. At Casia, that philosophy has found a natural home. Ingredients from the Methow Valley and Casia's own orchards and gardens inspire menus that change with the seasons, while Jason's love of the outdoors extends beyond the kitchen to the rivers and lakes of the valley and Casia's fly-fishing experiences.

Deborah oversees Casia's sales, marketing, events and interior design, as well as the barn and the ranch animals who call the property home. Her background spans more than two decades in marketing and communications, entrepreneurship, psychology, and hospitality wellness, but her lifelong connection to horses and her eye for creating beautiful, welcoming spaces are equally central to her work at Casia. From the way a room feels when a guest first walks through the door to the flowers on a dinner table, the details of a wedding weekend or the care of the animals in the barn, her focus is on creating experiences that feel warm, considered and deeply personal. Together, Deborah and Jason want Casia to feel less like a hotel you visit and more like a place you are genuinely welcomed into — one that invites you to eat well, explore, slow down and experience the Methow Valley in a more personal way.
